# Create a DNS zone for your domain

A DNS zone holds your domain’s DNS records at Inleed. You need one when the domain isn’t on a hosting account but should use Inleed’s DNS.

## Right guide?

- Is the domain going to your hosting at Inleed?
[Connect a domain to your hosting](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/connect-domain-to-hosting)

## Before you start

- Have the IP address of your website ready.

## How to create the zone

1. Log in to the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and click **Manage** next to the domain.

   The domain’s page opens.

2. Open the **DNS / Nameservers** tab.

The DNS zone form is shown.

**Important:** The address is used for the domain, `www` and `mail`. If your email should be somewhere else, change the `mail` record afterwards.

3. Enter the IP address of your website under **IPv4 Address**.

4. Click **Save**.

   It takes a few seconds.

## How to know it worked

The zone exists, with records for website and email. You can add more.

## Good to know

- The domain needs Inleed’s nameservers for the zone to apply.

- DNS at Inleed is free, also without hosting.
- You can’t import or export a zone file in the client area. Email [support](mailto:support@inleed.se) and we’ll help you.
