# Create an FTP account

An FTP account gives someone else, such as a web agency or a program, access to a folder on your hosting. You choose the folder and the password.

## Faster: let an AI app do it

If you’ve connected Inleed to an AI app, just write what you want done, for example:

> Create an FTP account for my web agency on example.se

Done. The FTP account is created and you can log in with it straight away.

## How to create it

1. Log in to [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin) and open **FTP Management**.

The page with your hosting’s FTP accounts opens.

2. Click **Create Account**.

The form for the new account opens.

3. Enter a name and a password for the account.

4. Choose which folder the account can reach and click **Create**.

## How to know it worked

The FTP account works straight away.

## If something doesn’t work

### SFTP doesn’t work with the FTP account

**Why:** Separate FTP accounts don’t work with SFTP. Only the DirectAdmin account does.

**What to do:** Choose FTP as the protocol in your program. If you need SFTP, log in with the DirectAdmin account on port 2020.

### The program can’t find the server

**Why:** You’re using `ftp.yourdomain.com`, but the domain doesn’t point to your hosting yet.

**What to do:** Use the server name instead. You’ll find it in the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) on your hosting’s page under **Hosting Specifics**, on the **SSH** row.

### You can’t log in after changing the password

**Why:** Attempts with the old password may have blocked your IP address in the firewall.

**What to do:** Whitelist your IP address in the client area and try again with the new password.

## Good to know

- Which server and port to enter is listed in the FTP settings.

- You change the password for an FTP account on the same page, under **FTP Management**.
