# Create a subdomain

A subdomain is an address in front of your domain, such as shop.yourdomain.com. It gets its own folder on your hosting.

## Right guide?

## Faster: let an AI app do it

If you’ve connected Inleed to an AI app, just write what you want done, for example:

> Create the subdomain shop.example.se

Done. The subdomain shop.example.se is now on your hosting.

## Before you start

- The domain must already be on your hosting. The subdomain is created on the same account as the domain.

## How to create it

1. Log in to [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin) and open **Subdomain Management**.

2. Click **Add Subdomain**.

3. Enter the name that goes in front of the domain, for example `shop`, and save.

## How to know it worked

The subdomain exists, with its own folder under the domain’s `public_html`.

## Good to know

- Should the subdomain have its own `public_html`, for example for a staging copy? Then add it as a domain of its own in DirectAdmin with **ADD NEW**.
- A wildcard certificate covers first-level subdomains, such as shop.yourdomain.com. It needs the domain to use Inleed’s nameservers.
