# Create a WordPress staging copy

A staging copy is a copy of your website on a subdomain. There you can test changes without touching the live site.

## How to create it

1. [Create a subdomain](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/create-subdomain) with its own `public_html`, for example `staging.yourdomain.com`.

2. Log in to [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin), open Installatron and click **My Applications**.

3. Click **Clone** next to the website.

4. Choose the subdomain as the target and leave the folder field empty.

5. Click **Clone**.

## How to know it worked

The copy is on the subdomain. The original is untouched.

## Good to know

- Don’t put the copy in a subfolder of your website. Use a subdomain.
- When you’re happy, you can sync the changes back with **Sync** in Installatron, or redo them on the original.
