# Delete your domain’s DNS zone

A domain can only be in one place at a time. Delete the zone when the domain should be added to a hosting account or moved to another provider.

## Right guide?

- Is the domain going to your hosting at Inleed?
[Connect a domain to your hosting](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/connect-domain-to-hosting)

## Before you start

- Copy the domain’s DNS records. They aren’t kept when the zone is deleted.

## How to delete the zone

1. Log in to the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and click **Manage** next to the domain.

   The domain’s page opens.

2. Open the **DNS / Nameservers** tab.

**Important:** All DNS records disappear. If the domain points to Inleed’s nameservers, your website and email stop working.

3. Click **Delete entire zone**.

## How to know it worked

The zone is deleted. The domain can be added somewhere else.

**Waiting time:** The deletion takes about 10 minutes.

## If something doesn’t work

### The domain gets the ending .new in DirectAdmin

**Why:** A DNS zone for the domain already existed on the servers.

**What to do:** Delete the old zone, remove the `.new` domain and add the real one.

## Good to know

- If the domain is on your other hosting account, remove it under **Domains** in that account’s [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin).
- If the domain is on someone else’s account, [support](mailto:support@inleed.se) does it.
