# Email in the new Outlook for Windows

The new Outlook for Windows requires an app password, even for accounts with other providers. Inleed has no app passwords, so use classic Outlook, Thunderbird or webmail. There’s nothing wrong with your email.

## How to get to your email

1. Search for Outlook in Start and see which app you have.

   If it’s called **Outlook (new)**, it’s the new Outlook.

### A. Switch to classic Outlook

You have Microsoft 365 or a purchased Office.

2. Turn off the **New Outlook** toggle.

   Classic Outlook opens.

3. Search for **Outlook (classic)** in Start and open the app, if there’s no toggle.

4. Add your email address in classic Outlook, using [the Outlook guide](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/add-email-outlook).

### B. Use Thunderbird

You don’t have Office. Thunderbird is free.

2. Download Thunderbird from [thunderbird.net](https://www.thunderbird.net/) and install it.

3. Add your email address in Thunderbird, using [the Thunderbird guide](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/add-email-thunderbird).

### C. Read your email in webmail

You need to get to your email right away.

2. Log in to [webmail](https://mail.inleed.com/).

   It works whichever email app you have.

## How to know it worked

Your inbox shows in the program you chose.

## If something doesn’t work

### Outlook says “You may need to use an app password”

**Why:** Microsoft requires an app password, and Inleed doesn’t have them.

**What to do:** Switch to classic Outlook or Thunderbird.

### Outlook shows the error “INVALIDCREDENTIALS”

**Why:** It’s the same app password requirement.

**What to do:** Switch to classic Outlook or Thunderbird.

### Classic Outlook isn’t on the computer

**Why:** New computers with Windows 11 only have the new Outlook. Classic Outlook comes with Microsoft 365 and purchased Office versions.

**What to do:** Install Office if you have a licence. Otherwise, use Thunderbird.

### Classic Outlook warns about the certificate

**Why:** The server is called `mail.inleed.com`, not after your domain.

**What to do:** Enter `mail.inleed.com` as the server.

## Good to know

- Changing the port, encryption or password doesn’t help. Inleed can’t create an app password for you either.
- Email in Microsoft 365 works in the new Outlook, since the account is then with Microsoft.
