# Export a database

An export saves a copy of the database on your computer. Export it in DirectAdmin, or with phpMyAdmin if you want to choose tables or format.

## How to export it

### A. In DirectAdmin

You want the whole database in one file.

1. Log in to [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin), open **Databases** and click **Manage** next to the database.

2. Click **Export as SQL**, or **Export as GZ** for a smaller, compressed file.

   The file downloads to your computer.

### B. With phpMyAdmin

1. Log in to [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin), open **Databases** and click **phpMyAdmin**.

   phpMyAdmin opens in a new tab.

2. Click the database in the list.

3. Open the **Export** tab.

4. Leave **Quick** and the **SQL** format as they are and click **Export**.

## How to know it worked

A file with the whole database is in the downloads folder on your computer.
