# Images won’t upload or don’t show

The upload to the media library fails, or the images don’t show on the website. Work through the causes from the top.

## Common causes

### 1. The file is too large

**Check:** Does WordPress say the file is too large? Then PHP’s upload limit is too low.

**What to do:** Raise `upload_max_filesize` and `post_max_size`.

### 2. The image extension is missing

**Check:** Can’t WordPress create thumbnails or crop images?

**What to do:** Turn on the PHP extension `imagick`.

### 3. Wrong permissions on the uploads folder

**Check:** Does it say the folder can’t be written to? This can happen after a move.

**What to do:** Set folders to `755` and files to `644`.

### 4. Your hosting is full

**Check:** Is there no room left?

**What to do:** Free up space on your hosting.

### 5. The images load over http

**Check:** Do the image links start with `http://` on a site using https?

**What to do:** Change the image links to https.

### 6. The image settings in LiteSpeed Cache

**Check:** Do you use the LiteSpeed Cache plugin? Wrong image settings there can cause image problems.

**What to do:** Check the image settings in the plugin.
