# Add Microsoft 365 email to Outlook

When your email is with Microsoft 365, add the account to Outlook as a “work or school” account, not with manual IMAP or SMTP.

## Before you start

- Have your email address and your password from Microsoft ready.

## How to add your email

1. Open Outlook and choose **File › Add Account**.

2. Enter your email address.

3. Log in as a **work or school** account with your password from Microsoft.

4. Approve the login in Microsoft Authenticator if you’re asked.

## How to know it worked

Your Microsoft 365 email appears in Outlook.

## If something doesn’t work

### It says the licence isn’t active

**Why:** The licence hasn’t been activated yet.

**What to do:** Wait a while and try again.

### The account can’t be added

**What to do:** Reinstall the Outlook app and try again.

## Good to know

- Old email stays at your previous provider. Wait at least 48 hours after the move before deleting it there.
