# WordPress says “The response is not a valid JSON response”

The error shows when you save in WordPress, for example a widget. Work through the causes from the top.

## Common causes

### 1. The permalinks or `.htaccess` are wrong

**Check:** Does it happen on every page?

**What to do:** Open **Settings › Permalinks** in WordPress and click **Save Changes** without changing anything.

### 2. The WordPress address doesn’t match

**Check:** Does the site’s address start with http while you’re on https, or the other way round?

**What to do:** Set the same address, with https, under **Settings › General**.

### 3. A plugin is blocking the request

**Check:** Did it start after a new plugin?

**What to do:** Disable the plugins one at a time.

### 4. The server’s protection may be stopping the request

**Check:** Does it only happen when the page contains certain text or code?

**What to do:** Email [support](mailto:support@inleed.se) with the address and the time, and we’ll check.
