# Restore your VPS from a backup

A backup holds the whole server. Restore it when you want to go back to how the server was when the backup was taken.

## Before you start

- The server has the Backup or Server maintenance add-on, which takes a backup every week.

## How to restore it

1. Log in to the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and click **Manage** next to your VPS.

   Your VPS’s page opens.

2. Open the **Backups** tab.

**Important:** The whole disk is replaced. Everything changed after the backup is lost.

3. Select the backup and choose to restore it.

## How to know it worked

The server is back to how it was when the backup was taken.

**Waiting time:** A restore can take many hours.

## If something doesn’t work

### It says the server has no automatic backups

**Why:** The server has neither the Backup nor the Server maintenance add-on.

**What to do:** Then there’s no backup to restore. If you want backups from now on, click **Add backups**.
