# Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain

SPF, DKIM and DMARC show the recipient that your email really comes from you. Check the records for your domain and add what is missing.

## Right guide?

- Does your email still end up in the spam folder?

- Is your email with Microsoft 365?

## Before you start

- Does the domain use another provider’s nameservers? Then add the records there.

## How to set up the records

### A. Check and add what is missing

The domain is on hosting at Inleed.

1. Open **Account Manager › DNS Management** in [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin) and find the TXT record that starts with `v=spf1`.

If it contains `include:spf.inleed.se`, SPF is done.

If you have several domains, choose the right one first.

2. Open **E-mail Accounts**, choose the domain and click **Enable DKIM** if it’s there.

The button changes to **Disable DKIM**, and the key is added to DNS automatically.

3. Go back to **DNS Management** and click **Add Record**.

If a TXT record for `_dmarc` already exists, there’s nothing to do.

4. Choose **TXT** under **Record Type** and enter this name and value. Name: `_dmarc` Value: `v=DMARC1;p=quarantine; adkim=s; aspf=s`

5. Click **Add**.

The record is added to the list.

### B. The domain has no hosting

The records are in the client area.

1. Open **DNS Records** for the domain in the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and find the TXT record that starts with `v=spf1`.

If it contains `include:spf.inleed.se`, SPF is done.

2. Add a TXT record with this name and value. Name: `_dmarc` Points To: `v=DMARC1;p=quarantine; adkim=s; aspf=s`

If a TXT record for `_dmarc` already exists, there’s nothing to do.

### C. Add a sending service

You also send through Mailchimp, Inleed Mailer, a CRM or similar.

1. Open **DNS Management** in [DirectAdmin](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-to-directadmin) and click the pencil on the SPF record row (`v=spf1`).

Without hosting, do the same under **DNS Records** in the [client area](https://login.inleed.net).

Don’t create a new SPF record. A domain can only have one.

2. Add the service’s `include` before `-all`, for example `include:servers.mcsv.net`, and save.

3. Add the service’s DKIM records (usually CNAME or TXT) as new records.

The service tells you which records they are.

In DirectAdmin, a value that is a name, as for a CNAME, must end with a dot.

## How to know it worked

The domain has SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

**Waiting time:** Changes usually apply within minutes, sometimes only after an hour.

## If something doesn’t work

### There are two SPF records

**Why:** Two SPF records make both count as wrong.

**What to do:** Merge them into one with all the `include` parts, and delete the other.

### It says “Enable DKIM” but nothing happens

**Why:** The domain’s DNS is with another provider.

**What to do:** Copy the DKIM record from **DNS Management** in DirectAdmin and add it at the provider.

## Good to know

- SPF says which servers may send email from your domain. DKIM is a digital signature showing the email hasn’t changed on the way. DMARC tells the recipient what to do with email that fails SPF or DKIM.
