# Add a static IP to WireGuard VPN

A static IP is an add-on to WireGuard VPN. You get your own fixed IP address through the VPN, independent of your internet provider.

- You have the WireGuard VPN service and have set it up.

## How to add a static IP

1. Log in to the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and open **Upgrades**.

2. Order the static IP for WireGuard VPN.

## How to know it worked

Your WireGuard service gets its own fixed IP address.

## Good to know

- No ports are blocked on the VPN or on a static IP. To control incoming traffic, use your own firewall.
- Without the add-on, WireGuard VPN has no fixed address, so it can’t be used to whitelist an IP address.
- If you have the older StaticIP (OpenVPN) service, [contact support](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/contact-support) and we’ll switch you to WireGuard with your own IP address.
