# Turn off DNSSEC for your domain

DNSSEC protects your domain’s DNS with signatures. Turn it off before the domain changes nameservers, or when it has stopped working.

## How to turn it off

1. Log in to the [client area](https://login.inleed.net) and click **Manage** next to the domain.

   The domain’s page opens.

2. Open the **DNS / Nameservers** tab.

3. Open the **DNSSEC** sub-tab.

4. Click **Unsign**.

If it says **Sign**, DNSSEC is already off.

## How to know it worked

DNSSEC is off when the box says **Sign**.

**Waiting time:** Allow up to 4 hours, usually around 3, before the change applies everywhere. It can’t be sped up.

## Good to know

- A DNSSEC error stops your website, email and SSL certificate from working, even if the nameservers are right.
- If you are transferring a domain to Inleed, turn off DNSSEC at the old provider first.
- To turn DNSSEC back on, click **Sign** in the same place.
