# Update WordPress, themes and plugins

Updates keep your website secure. You update WordPress, plugins and themes from the same page in the dashboard.

## Before you start

- Take a backup first, so you can go back if something stops working.

## How to update

1. [Log in to WordPress](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/log-in-wordpress) and click **Updates**.

2. If there is a new version of WordPress, click **Update to version …**.

3. Tick **Select All** under **Plugins**.

4. Click **Update Plugins**.

5. Tick **Select All** under **Themes**.

6. Click **Update Themes**.

7. Click **Update Translations** if the button is there.

## How to know it worked

The **Updates** page shows that everything is up to date.

## If something doesn’t work

### The website shows a critical error after the update

**What to do:** Follow the troubleshooting for critical errors.

### A plugin needs a newer PHP version

**What to do:** Switch to a newer PHP version.

## Good to know

- You can also update WordPress with the **Update** button next to the website in Installatron.
