# My website stopped working after a PHP change

The quickest fix is to [switch back to the version you had](https://inleed.com/helpcenter/change-php-version). Your website then works again, and you can troubleshoot without stress.

## Common causes

### 1. A PHP extension is missing

**Check:** Does your website or WordPress say that an extension is missing, for example `mysqli` or `imagick`?

**What to do:** Extensions apply per PHP version. Turn on the extension for the new version under **Extensions**.

### 2. A WordPress plugin or theme causes errors

**Check:** Is the plugin or theme too old for the new version?

**What to do:** Update it, or deactivate it.

### 3. Settings like the memory limit have been reset

**Check:** Do the PHP settings have different values than before you changed version?

**What to do:** PHP settings apply per version. Set them again for the new version under **Options**.
