# My website shows “Not secure”

The browser warns when the certificate is missing, has expired or doesn’t cover the address. It also warns when the page loads content over http. Start with the cause at the top.

## Right guide?

- Is your website on Wix, Shopify or similar?

## Common causes

### 1. The certificate has expired, even though it should have renewed

**Check:** Did the renewal fail, for example because the domain or www no longer points here?

**What to do:** Open **Provisioning history** under **SSL/TLS Certificates** in DirectAdmin. It shows what went wrong.

### 2. It works on the domain but not on www, or the other way round

**Check:** Is the certificate missing for one of the names? www usually points somewhere else.

**What to do:** Point @ and www to your hosting’s IP address. The certificate is then created automatically.

### 3. It says Not secure even though the certificate is valid

**Check:** Does the page load images, fonts or scripts over http, or do visitors end up on http?

**What to do:** Turn on **Force SSL with https redirect** for the domain in DirectAdmin, and change `http://` to `https://` in the website’s settings.

### 4. The browser shows a certificate for a server name instead of your domain

**Check:** Does the domain lack its own certificate, or does it point to the wrong server?

**What to do:** Follow the troubleshooting for certificates that can’t be created.

### 5. The domain points to another service, such as Cloudflare or Vercel

**Check:** Does the domain point to an external service? The certificate is then created there, not at Inleed.

**What to do:** Fix the certificate at that service.

## Good to know

- SSL certificates are free and are created automatically when the domain points to your hosting.
