Change the nameservers for your domain

Nameservers decide where your domain’s DNS settings live. Change them when you want Inleed, or another provider, to handle DNS for the domain.

Faster: let an AI app do itMCP

If you’ve connected Inleed to an AI app, just write what you want done, for example:

Change the nameservers for example.se to Inleed’s

The app prepares the change. You approve it in the client area.

Before you start

  • Moving to another provider? Have their nameservers ready. You need at least 2.
  • Your DNS records don’t move with the nameservers. Add them at the new place first, or your website and email stop working.
  • Does the domain use DNSSEC? Turn it off before you switch. Turn off DNSSEC

How to change them

  1. 1

Log in to the client area and click Manage next to the domain.

    The domain’s page opens.

  2. 2

Open the DNS / Nameservers tab.

The nameservers and DNS records are shown.

  3. 3

    Click Change nameservers.

A form with 6 nameserver fields opens.

A

To Inleed’s nameservers

Inleed handles DNS for the domain.

  1. 4

Click Replace all nameservers with Inleed.

A box asks you to confirm.

  2. 5

    Confirm with Yes, I'm sure.

The fields fill in with Inleed’s nameservers.

The change is saved when you confirm. The form stays open, but you don’t need to click Update nameservers.

B

To another provider

DNS will be handled by, for example, Cloudflare or another web host.

  1. 4

Enter the new provider’s nameservers, one per field, and clear the other fields.

At least 2, at most 6.

Enter only the name, for example ns1.example.com, without https://.

  2. 5

    Click Update nameservers.

A message confirms that the nameservers are updated.

The form stays open after you save.

How to know it worked

Done

The new nameservers are listed under DNS / Nameservers.

Waiting time

It can take up to 48 hours before the change is live everywhere. Meanwhile some visitors may reach the old settings and others the new ones. It can’t be sped up.

If something doesn’t work

My website or email stopped working

Why: The DNS records are missing at the new provider.

What to do: Add them there, or switch back to the old nameservers in the meantime.

Add a DNS record
The form won’t accept the nameserver

Why: A typo, https:// in the field, or an unusual hostname the form rejects.

What to do: Check the spelling. If a valid name is still rejected, contact support.

I can’t change the nameservers

Why: A transfer of the domain is in progress.

What to do: Wait until the transfer is finished.

More than 48 hours have passed

What to do: Email support and tell us which domain it is.

Good to know

  • Inleed’s nameservers are free to use.
  • With Inleed’s nameservers you manage the DNS records on the same page, under DNS Records. If the domain is on your web hosting, change them in DirectAdmin instead.
  • You can undo it by switching back. That takes the same time to go through.
