My domain isn’t working

Both the website and email are down, and your browser may show DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN. Start with the cause at the top.

Right guide?

Is only the website down? My website is down

Is it only your email that isn’t working? Email isn’t working

Common causes

1The domain has expired

Check

Has the domain been renewed? A .se or .nu domain and its email keep working until the domain is suspended, about 10 days after the expiry date.

What to do

Renew the domain in the client area.

Can I get back a domain that has expired?
2The domain is suspended

Check

Have you received an email asking you to verify the contact details? The domain can be suspended when the details have not been verified.

What to do

Follow the guide for a domain that is suspended pending verification.

My domain is suspended pending verification
3Wrong nameservers, or a mix

Check

Do the nameservers under DNS / Nameservers point to the wrong place, or to both Inleed’s and another provider’s? Then the domain ends up in a DNS where the records are missing.

What to do

Use only Inleed’s nameservers, or only the other provider’s.

Change the nameservers for your domain
4You’ve recently changed nameservers

Check

The change isn’t visible everywhere yet. Meanwhile the website can switch between the old and the new server.

What to do

Wait. It can take up to 48 hours, and it can’t be sped up.

5DNSSEC is on but doesn’t match

Check

Incorrect DNSSEC stops the website, email and SSL, even with the right nameservers.

What to do

Turn off DNSSEC. Allow up to 4 hours for it to take effect.

Turn off DNSSEC for your domain
6The DNS zone is empty or missing the records

Check

Are the records for the domain and www missing? The zone may have been deleted, or the records removed.

What to do

Add the A records again, or create the zone again. If the domain is on your hosting, add the records in DirectAdmin under DNS Management.

Add a DNS record

Good to know

  • If the domain uses another provider’s nameservers, all DNS changes are made there. Changes at Inleed then don’t affect the domain.
