VPS or dedicated server
A VPS is a virtual server, and a dedicated server is a physical server of your own. Here’s the difference, and what we handle in each case.
The difference
| Type | What it is |
|---|---|
| VPS | A virtual server with full root access over SSH and VNC. You run the server yourself. |
| Dedicated server | A physical server of your own. We do the basic setup of the hardware, and you look after the operating system. |
| Server maintenance | An add-on for both. We handle installations, updates, monitoring and backups. |
Good to know
- If you only need websites and email, web hosting is usually enough. Hosting plans compared
- Without Server maintenance, we give no support on the server beyond restarts.
- For a quote on a dedicated server, we need the server model, disk type and RAID configuration.
