Test your connection directly at the fibre box
With your computer connected directly to the fibre box, you can see if the fault is in the network or in your own equipment. We need the test before we can report a fault.
Before you start
- You need a computer with a network port (or an adapter) and a network cable, Cat5e or Cat6.
How to test
- 1
Disconnect the router from the fibre box.
- 2
Unplug the power to the fibre box for at least 3 minutes, then plug it back in.
- 3
Connect the computer by cable to the fibre box’s LAN port.
Turn off wifi on the computer.
- 4
Open a web page.
To measure the speed, use Bredbandskollen and save a screenshot.
How to know it worked
Done
If it works now, the fault is in the router or the wifi. If it doesn’t, report a fault to us.
If something doesn’t work
Nothing works with a cable either
Why: There may be a fault in the network or in the fibre box.
What to do: Connect the router again and report a fault to us. Tell us you’ve tested with a cable directly in the fibre box.
Report a broadband faultThe computer gets an IP address starting with 169.254
Why: The computer hasn’t received an address through DHCP.
What to do: Check that the computer gets its address automatically (DHCP), and power off the fibre box again.
Good to know
- A speed test is only accepted if it was done with a cable directly in the fibre box.
- If the test shows less than half the speed you pay for, it counts as a fault.
- You can see your public IP address at
ip.inleed.se.
