Someone is sending spam from my email address

Getting bounces or complaints about emails you didn’t send? Usually someone has only forged your address, but someone could also have your password.

Right guide?

Wondering if an email in Inleed’s name is genuine? Is this email really from Inleed?

Common causes

1Someone is forging your address as the sender

Check

Are the emails missing from Sent, and has the sending limit not been reached? Then the sender is usually forged, which doesn’t mean anyone has got into the account.

What to do

Make sure the domain has SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so recipients can stop the forgeries. Change the password anyway and scan your devices for viruses.

2Someone has your password

Check

Are the emails in Sent, or has the sending limit been reached?

What to do

Change the password straight away, update it on all your devices and contact support.

3You logged in through a link in an email

Check

Did you click a link in an email and log in? It was probably phishing.

What to do

Change the password straight away.
