Connect your domain to Google Workspace
With Google Workspace, Google receives the email for your domain. You change the domain’s MX record and SPF record so the email goes there.
Before you start
- The domain must be added and verified in Google Workspace.
- If the domain’s DNS isn’t on your hosting, make the same change under DNS Records in the client area.
How to connect the domain
- 1
Log in to DirectAdmin and open E-mail Manager › MX Records.
Important
All email goes to Google from now on. Addresses that exist only at Inleed stop receiving.
- 2
Choose the Google Suite MX template under MX Template and save.
- 3
Check that there is only one MX record, with priority 1 and this value.
Delete any other MX records.
- 4
Check that Use this server to handle my e-mails is unticked.
- 5
Add this value to the domain’s SPF record.
The steps are in Add a DNS record.
Don’t create a new SPF record. The domain should have only one.
How to know it worked
Done
New email to the domain ends up at Google.
Waiting time
A changed MX record normally goes through within an hour. With Google’s template it can take up to 24 hours. Meanwhile, email can arrive at both Inleed and Google.
If something doesn’t work
Google can’t verify the domain
Why: The TXT record has the wrong name, old records are still there, or it hasn’t been long enough.
What to do: Name the TXT record @ or the domain, not google. Keep only the current record. It can take up to an hour before Google sees it.
