My website is slow
It usually comes down to the website itself, such as no cache or heavy plugins. Sometimes your hosting hits its resource limits. Start with the cause at the top.
Common causes
Check
Does the website have a cache plugin? Without a cache, every page is rebuilt for every visitor.
What to do
Turn on LiteSpeed Cache.
Is only the WordPress admin slow? No cache is used when you’re logged in to WordPress, and the first visit after a change rebuilds the cache.
Turn on LiteSpeed Cache for WordPressCheck
Are several cache plugins active at once, for example WP Rocket and LiteSpeed Cache? They clash.
What to do
Keep only one, preferably LiteSpeed Cache.
Check
Is your hosting hitting its resource limits? New processes and connections are then blocked for a while.
What to do
Check your resource usage under Resource Usage in DirectAdmin. If the plan isn’t enough, upgrade.
Check your hosting resource usageCheck
Is it only one page or feature? It’s often a heavy plugin or a large image.
What to do
Disable the plugins one at a time and test after each one.
Disable a WordPress plugin from the File ManagerGood to know
- If you need more power while you optimise, support can upgrade you temporarily. You pay the difference.
- With Elastic Scaling your hosting is upgraded automatically to the next plan when it hits the limits repeatedly. Why was my hosting upgraded automatically?
- Server settings aren’t changed for a single website on shared hosting. The optimising is done on the website.
