Before you start

  • If the space runs out, the account is locked at the nightly check after midnight. Clean up before then.

How to free up space

  1. 1

Log in to DirectAdmin. The start page shows how much space you use.

A

Email

Large mailboxes are the most common cause.

  1. 2

    Open E-mail Manager › E-mail Accounts.

Under Usage you see how big each mailbox is.

  2. 3

Empty the trash and spam folders in webmail, or delete old email.

B

Installatron backups

They are stored on your hosting and take up space.

  1. 2

Open Installatron in DirectAdmin. Each installation shows how many backups it has.

  2. 3

Click My Backups and delete the backups you don’t need.

Inleed takes its own backup every day, so you don’t need to keep many.

C

Files

Old files, logs and copies.

  1. 2

Open File Manager and delete files you don’t need, such as old zip files and copies of the website.

  2. 3

Empty the trash in File Manager.

Deleted files take up space until the trash is emptied.

How to know it worked

Done

More space is free, and the figure on the DirectAdmin start page has gone down.

Waiting time

The figure for used space updates once a day. It can take up to 24 hours before what you cleared shows.

If something doesn’t work

The account is already locked

Why: The space is full.

What to do: You can’t unlock the account yourself. Contact support or upgrade your plan.

Good to know

  • You get a warning email when 70% of the space is used.
  • Email and databases count towards the space too, not only the website’s files.
  • Inleed’s daily backup takes up none of your space.
