Change the PHP version for your website
You choose the PHP version in DirectAdmin. Pick the highest version your website can handle. The change applies to your whole hosting account, but a domain can also have its own version.
If you’ve connected Inleed to an AI app, just write what you want done, for example:
Done. Your hosting now runs PHP 8.4.
Before you start
- A plugin or theme that can’t handle the new version can stop your website. Change one version at a time and check the website in between.
How to change it
- 1
Log in to the client area and click your hosting under Websites, email & DNS.
DirectAdmin opens. No password is needed.
- 2
Open Extra Features in the menu and click Select PHP version.
- 3
Click the version under PHP version.
It shows the version you have now.
- 4
Choose the new version, preferably the highest your website can handle.
How to know it worked
Done
The new version is shown under PHP version.
Waiting time
It can take a few minutes before the change shows. Reload the page or test in a private window.
If something doesn’t work
The website shows errors after the change
Why: A plugin or theme doesn’t work with the new version.
What to do: Switch back to the old version and update the website first.
WordPress still shows the old version
Why: The domain has its own PHP version.
What to do: Change the version under Per Domain Settings.
Good to know
- Under Per Domain Settings each domain can have its own version.
- You can choose versions up to PHP 8.5. If you run anything older than 8.2 you should change, because PHP 7 has reached End of Life.
