Troubleshooting

My website stopped working after a PHP change

The quickest fix is to switch back to the version you had. Your website then works again, and you can troubleshoot without stress.

Common causes

1A PHP extension is missing

Check

Does your website or WordPress say that an extension is missing, for example mysqli or imagick?

What to do

Extensions apply per PHP version. Turn on the extension for the new version under Extensions.

Enable PHP extensions on your hosting
2A WordPress plugin or theme causes errors

Check

Is the plugin or theme too old for the new version?

What to do

Update it, or deactivate it.

Disable a WordPress plugin from the File Manager
3Settings like the memory limit have been reset

Check

Do the PHP settings have different values than before you changed version?

What to do

PHP settings apply per version. Set them again for the new version under Options.

Change PHP settings for your website
